Bask in Bahrain – Our 5-Star Stay at Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay

Bask in Bahrain – Our 5-Star Stay at Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay

When luxury meets Middle Eastern charm, you get an unforgettable escape – and that’s exactly what we discovered on our recent trip to the stunning Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay.

              Flying in Style

Our journey began at Heathrow Airport, flying with Gulf Air on their Boeing 787 Dreamliner – and we were genuinely impressed from the moment we checked in. The Gulf Air lounge was sleek, well-stocked, and a relaxing place to unwind before take-off. But what really stood out was the business class cabin itself.

The seat size, pitch, and overall cabin layout were exceptional — offering a level of comfort and space that easily rivals, if not beats, many of the larger mainstream carriers. The Dreamliner’s modern design added to the experience, with mood lighting and extra-large windows giving it a bright, spacious feel. Add to that attentive service, a well-curated menu, and a smooth boarding experience, and it made for a very enjoyable start to the trip.

The flight time from London to Bahrain was just over 6 hours, making it a relatively short hop for such an exotic, sun-soaked destination.

For the price point, it’s genuinely one of the best value-for-money business class cabins we’ve experienced in a while – and we’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for an elevated yet accessible way to travel to the Middle East.

              The Arrival

Warmth hits you the moment you touch down in Bahrain – not just the sunshine, but the hospitality. After landing, we were at the hotel in just 10 minutes, making the transfer one of the smoothest and quickest we’ve ever experienced.

From the moment we stepped into the lobby, we knew we were somewhere special. The space is incredibly striking, with an impossibly high ceiling and a calm, refined atmosphere brought to life by several large olive trees planted right in the heart of the lobby. It felt more like stepping into a modern art gallery than a hotel – and it set the perfect tone for the stay ahead.

The check-in was seamless, and before we knew it, we were in our room – a peaceful retreat with floor-to-ceiling views of both the sea and the Manama skyline.

Four Fun Facts About Four Seasons Bahrain Bay

One of the things that makes the Four Seasons Bahrain Bay so special is the attention to detail and storytelling woven into the resort’s design and atmosphere. Here are four fun facts that we absolutely loved discovering during our stay:

              1. The Olive Trees in the Lobby Are Over 200 Years Old
Yes, they’re real – kind of! The stunning olive trees in the lobby were originally over 200 years old, and have been mummified and preserved, with synthetic leaves and olives attached to give them new life. A beautiful blend of nature, art, and history.

              2. The Elevator Ceilings Are Made with Real Gold
You read that right. The ceilings in all of the elevators are adorned with real gold, adding a quiet sense of luxury even to the most everyday parts of your stay.

              3. The Hotel Is Designed in the Shape of an ‘H’
A subtle yet meaningful touch — the architecture of the Four Seasons building forms the letter H, in honour of King Hamad of Bahrain.

              4. The Beach Sand Is Imported from Saudi Arabia
The hotel’s beautiful private beach isn’t just for show — the real sand was imported from Saudi Arabia, giving it an ultra-soft feel underfoot that’s perfect for lounging or a barefoot stroll along Bahrain Bay.

Room with a View (and More)

Spacious, serene, and seriously stylish – our room had all the hallmarks of Four Seasons elegance. Think plush linens, a luxurious marble bathroom, high-end finishes, and that signature scent that tells you, you’ve arrived. One of our favourite moments was simply waking up to the golden sunrise over the bay, coffee in hand, watching the city come to life through panoramic windows.

              Dining in Style

From world-class steak at CUT by Wolfgang Puck to the refined Bahraini flavours at Bahrain Bay Kitchen, every meal felt like a curated culinary experience.

A real highlight for us was dining at Byblos, the resort’s beachfront Lebanese restaurant. It was our first time trying authentic Lebanese cuisine – and we were completely won over. From grilled meats and spiced rice to fresh mezze and dips, every dish was packed with flavour. Add in the soft sea breeze and a beautifully ambient setting, and it became one of those unforgettable meals that lingers long after the last bite.

We ended the evening in the rooftop shisha lounge, where we relaxed under the stars – the perfect finish to a perfect day.

While the Four Seasons Bahrain Bay is available on a room-only basis, the hotel offers a wide variety of fantastic dining options to suit every taste. And if you’re looking to venture out, the city’s restaurant scene is easily accessible with affordable taxis and Ubers – making it simple to explore both local and international cuisine just minutes away from the resort.

              Poolside Bliss & Spa Indulgence

The hotel’s private beach and multiple pool areas made it tempting to never leave the grounds. From peaceful swims in the adults-only area to laid-back time in the infinity pool, every corner felt designed for relaxation.

Although we visited as a couple, the resort is also incredibly family-friendly. There’s a dedicated children’s water park, a fun and engaging kids’ club, and even a charming ice cream station that was always a hit with younger guests. It’s the kind of place where kids are just as well cared for as the adults — making it a perfect balance of fun and tranquillity for families.

What truly elevated the experience, though, was the attention to detail. While relaxing by the pool, guests are given a complimentary cooler stocked with chilled bottled water, and there’s even a call buzzer at each lounger so you can order drinks or food with ease – no need to even get up. And speaking of food, the poolside dining was absolutely incredible – fresh, flavoursome, and beautifully presented, whether it was light bites or something more indulgent.

The Four Seasons Spa took things to the next level. After a full-body massage and time in the hydrotherapy pool, we felt genuinely recharged. It’s more than a spa – it’s a sanctuary.

              Beyond the Hotel

While the Four Seasons offers everything you could need for the perfect escape, Bahrain itself is full of culture, charm, and contrast – and it all begins just steps from the resort.

Directly opposite the hotel, you’ll find a large shopping mall featuring high-street favourites, designer labels, and a buzzing food court. It’s easily accessible via a scenic water taxi ride from the hotel’s private marina – a unique and relaxed way to travel across Bahrain Bay.

              But that’s just the start.

Bahrain’s rich pearl-diving heritage, modern waterfront developments, and fascinating museums make it a destination worth exploring beyond the beach. A wander through the traditional souks of Manama is a must – full of spices, gold, and local crafts that bring the culture to life.

For those looking to explore further afield, we highly recommend visiting Jadara – a remote island escape often referred to as the “Maldives of Bahrain.” With its crystal-clear waters, soft white sand, and total tranquillity, it offers a completely different side of the country that feels a world away from the city.

Whether you’re after shopping, history, nature, or a taste of local life, Bahrain offers a surprisingly diverse mix of experiences, all within easy reach of the comfort and calm of the Four Seasons.

              Other Hotels We Recommend

While the Four Seasons Bahrain Bay is an exceptional choice, Bahrain is home to several other outstanding luxury hotels that we highly recommend. For those looking for alternative options, consider the Jumeirah Gulf of Bahrain Resort & Spa, the iconic Ritz-Carlton Bahrain, or the stylish and centrally located Address Beach Resort Bahrain.

Each offers its own unique blend of luxury, location, and service — and we’re happy to help match you with the perfect fit based on your style of travel, whether you’re planning a romantic break, a family getaway, or a luxurious stopover in the Gulf.

When to Go: Best Time to Visit Bahrain

Bahrain enjoys sunshine almost year-round, but the best time to visit is between November and April, when temperatures are warm and comfortable, with low humidity.

We visited during the Easter break in April, which is peak season – and for good reason. The weather was hot but not overwhelming, perfect for poolside afternoons and warm evenings. From May through August, temperatures can soar into the 40s°C, so if you’re after that ideal blend of sunshine and comfort, March to April is a great time to go.

Why We’d Go Back (and You Should Too)

This wasn’t just a luxury break – it was a full experience. From the elegance of the resort to the ease of travel, incredible dining, family-friendly touches, and welcoming culture, Bahrain completely exceeded our expectations.

Bahama Bliss: Our Rosewood Baha Mar Escape

Bahama Bliss: Our Rosewood Baha Mar Escape

From the moment we touched down in Nassau, we knew this trip would be something special. As the founders of Guru Travel, we spent five incredible nights at the Rosewood Baha Mar in late October 2024. This was a much-needed escape for the two of us, and we couldn’t have chosen a more luxurious Caribbean hideaway.

              The Journey Begins in Style

We started our journey from London Heathrow, flying Upper Class with Virgin Atlantic. As always, Virgin’s Clubhouse at Terminal 3 was exceptional—one of the best business class lounges in the world. From stylish interiors to à la carte dining and pre-flight spa treatments, it set the tone perfectly for the luxury escape ahead.

Sadly, Virgin Atlantic have since discontinued their direct route to Nassau, but British Airways continue to fly daily from Terminal 5 at Heathrow, offering a premium experience with a consistent schedule. For clients looking to recreate our journey, BA now offers the most convenient option from the UK.

              The Baha Mar Experience

Our Rosewood experience began the moment we arrived at Nassau airport, where we were greeted by a chauffeured SUV, courtesy of the hotel. The transfer was quick and seamless—just 10 to 15 minutes from the airport, which is a real bonus after a long-haul flight.

Though Rosewood is nestled within the wider Baha Mar complex, it operates like a boutique hotel, with its own dedicated entrance and reception. The arrival experience was serene and sophisticated, with a warm welcome and thoughtfully designed space that instantly made us feel at ease. In fact, the décor and architectural touches throughout the property were so inspiring that we’ve brought some of the design ideas home with us—a little slice of Rosewood now lives in our own home.

Set along the white sands of Cable Beach, Baha Mar is a sprawling, high-end resort complex made up of three hotels: the Grand Hyatt, SLS, and Rosewood. Together, they form a world of their own—with a vast casino, more than 40 dining venues, boutique shops, and even a wildlife sanctuary.

Each hotel has its own personality:

Grand Hyatt is the largest of the three, perfect for families with its central location and easy access to everything.

SLS brings the party, with a cool, adult-focused vibe, daily entertainment, and poolside DJ sets that draw a younger, energetic crowd.

And then there’s Rosewood—our home for the week—offering elegance, privacy, and tranquillity. It’s where the pace slows, the service shines, and every detail is just that little bit more refined.

By staying at Rosewood, we had access to the entire resort, but always had the luxury of retreating to our own peaceful corner when we needed it.

              Dining Highlights

One of the best parts of staying at Baha Mar is the food—and we absolutely made the most of it. During our stay, we dined at some of the resort’s best restaurants:

Café Boulud – A standout for fine dining. The service was flawless, and the French-inspired cuisine was genuinely world-class.

Carna by Dario Cecchini – A meat-lover’s dream. The steak was among the best we’ve ever had, and the atmosphere was vibrant and stylish.

Marcus at Baha Mar Fish + Chop House – This place had a fantastic buzz and offered a unique blend of Bahamian flavours and upscale flair.

Shuang Ba – Beautifully designed and a real gem if you enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine.

Fi’lia – A lovely Italian spot located within the SLS. The food was simple, fresh, and delicious—and we were really impressed by the value for money, especially considering the generous portion sizes.

Costa – One of the best meals of the trip. This authentic Mexican restaurant is tucked away in the Rosewood, set around a tranquil koi pond. The food was incredibly fresh and flavourful, and the ambience was just perfect—peaceful, stylish, and beautifully designed.

When it comes to breakfast, Baha Mar caters to every style of traveller. You can enjoy an elegant à la carte start to the day at Café Boulud, head to one of the resort’s lavish buffets, or simply grab something quick from Starbucks or other casual cafés. Whether you’re in the mood for a relaxed morning or a quick bite before heading out to explore, the options are incredibly flexible.

Lunch was just as impressive. In addition to the sit-down restaurants, there are food carts scattered along the beach—a thoughtful and convenient option for those who don’t want to leave their lounger. Offering everything from tacos and sliders to fresh fruit and smoothies, the food carts add a relaxed, fun touch to midday dining without ever compromising on quality.

One spot we didn’t get a chance to dine at—but absolutely must mention—is the famous Café Madeleine. Tucked within the resort, it’s known for its charming French café vibe and elegant patisserie-style breakfasts and lunches. Though we didn’t manage to visit personally, we spoke to several guests who had, and the reviews were glowing. From the fresh pastries and artisan coffees to the beautiful setting, it’s a place with a bit of a cult following, and one we’ll definitely prioritise next time.

And while food is a major highlight, it’s the charming little extras that make Baha Mar stand out. One of our favourite surprises was the flamingo walk, which takes place daily. The resort’s resident flamingos strut gracefully through the grounds, delighting guests of all ages—it’s the kind of whimsical experience that stays with you long after your holiday ends.

Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Baha Mar delivers an exceptional culinary journey with endless choice and consistently high standards.

A Splash of Fun at Baha Bay

It wasn’t all dining and downtime—Baha Bay, the resort’s private water park, added a whole other dimension to our trip. Whether you’re travelling with kids or just fancy a bit of fun yourself, it’s a brilliant addition. The park features everything from relaxing lazy rivers to adrenaline-fuelled slides, and it’s all impeccably maintained. Best of all, it’s exclusive to Baha Mar guests and just steps away from the beach.

Why Rosewood Was the Right Choice for Us

We loved being able to dip into the action—be it dinner at SLS, a quick flutter in the casino, or a walk through the beautifully landscaped grounds—but we always came back to the calm of Rosewood.

Although Rosewood is a room-only hotel, it certainly doesn’t feel like you’re missing out. Around the pool and beach, service was impeccable. There were complimentary daily snacks, an ice cream cart offering free treats, and even a cocktail of the day, delivered to your lounger. These little touches made every day feel that bit more special, and really set Rosewood apart in terms of hospitality.

Our suite was elegant and spacious, with a balcony that offered incredible views and the kind of bed you never want to leave. Every detail—right down to the welcome drink and turndown treats—felt considered and personal.

              Evening Entertainment

When the sun sets at Baha Mar, the atmosphere comes alive in a whole new way. Our personal highlight was without a doubt the casino—the largest in the Caribbean—surrounded by vibrant bars and buzzing with energy. It’s elegant, exciting, and effortlessly glamorous.

A new addition since our visit is the jazz bar, located right in the heart of the casino. Designed to be the soul of the resort’s nightlife, this stylish venue brings a touch of timeless class to the evenings and is quickly becoming a must-visit for guests who enjoy live music in a sophisticated setting.

Over at SLS, the vibe shifts to something more distinctly Caribbean. One of the loveliest touches was the evening steel pan performances—a fantastic way to immerse yourself in local culture, cocktail in hand, as the sun dips below the horizon.

And if you’re looking for the perfect sunset spot, the SLS Rooftop Bar is the place to be. With panoramic views, chic surroundings, and a laid-back evening vibe, it’s ideal for pre-dinner drinks or winding down in style.

Whether you’re after a relaxed drink with live music or the buzz of the casino floor, Baha Mar has something to suit every evening mood.

              A Luxury Escape Worth Repeating

For couples seeking a refined Caribbean retreat, or luxury travellers wanting the best of both worlds—exclusivity and variety—Rosewood Baha Mar delivers on every front. It’s a rare find—a resort that caters to a wide range of tastes and energies, without ever diluting its premium appeal.

At Guru Travel, we specialise in these kinds of elevated experiences. We know how to pair you with the perfect hotel for your travel style—whether that’s the family-friendly fun of the Grand Hyatt, the social buzz of SLS, or the serene sophistication of Rosewood.

A Luxurious Escape to Sandals Royal Barbados & Sandals Barbados

A Luxurious Escape to Sandals Royal Barbados & Sandals Barbados

              Why Barbados?

Our most recent trip to Barbados was in September 2024. While it’s not considered peak season, we were still treated to beautiful 30°C weather and plenty of sunshine. There were a few short rain showers, but they passed quickly and were actually quite refreshing. Barbados sits just outside the typical hurricane belt, making it one of the more reliable Caribbean destinations at this time of year.

Our Stay at Sandals Royal Barbados

We spent a full week at Sandals Royal Barbados, our fifth visit since it opened, and once again, it didn’t disappoint.

If you’ve ever stayed at a Sandals resort, you already know what to expect—five-star luxury, adults-only exclusivity, premium-brand drinks, unlimited à la carte dining, and select watersports. But what sets Sandals Royal Barbados apart is how modern and elevated it feels—this is Sandals 2.0, the next generation of all-inclusive luxury.

              First Impressions: A Caribbean Welcome

After a short 15-20 minute transfer from the airport, we arrived at the resort and were instantly greeted in true Caribbean style—a rum punch in hand, singing, dancing, and the sounds of Bob Marley playing in the background. From the grand entrance to the resort itself, everything was sleek, modern, and luxurious.

Resort Highlights: What Makes It Special?

Sandals Royal Barbados offers an impressive array of facilities, making it an all-in-one luxury retreat:

Island Routes: Catamaran Sunset Cruise – The Highlight of Our Week

Although this trip was all about relaxing, we couldn’t resist adding in one unforgettable adventure — the Catamaran Sunset Cruise with Cool Runnings III, organised through Island Routes, Sandals’ official tour partner.

Midway through the week, we set sail from Bridgetown Harbour, heading up Barbados’ stunning west coast. Our first stop was Carlisle Bay, where we snorkelled over historic shipwrecks surrounded by vibrant marine life. The crystal-clear waters and eerie silhouettes below made for a surreal and magical experience.

Afterwards, we cruised further along the coast before dropping anchor in the turquoise bay just off the shore from the iconic Sandy Lane. Here, we had time for another swim, a snorkel, or simply to relax on deck and take in the views.

While we soaked up the scenery, the amazing crew served up a delicious hot buffet lunch. The star of the show? Jerk flying fish — the national dish of Barbados — bursting with flavour and Caribbean spice.

As we slowly made our way back toward Bridgetown, the sky lit up with a breathtaking Caribbean sunset, casting golden light across the sea. It was pure magic — a moment of calm and beauty that felt like the perfect way to end a day in paradise.

If you’re visiting Barbados, this Island Routes Catamaran Sunset Cruise is an absolute must-do. It blends everything we love about this island: natural beauty, authentic flavours, warm hospitality, and unforgettable memories on the water.

🧭 Island Routes also offers a huge variety of other excursions for those wanting to explore more of Barbados, including swimming with turtles, jeep safaris, historic rum tours, cave explorations, and even luxury private island experiences. Whether you’re looking for culture, adventure, or relaxation, there’s something for everyone — all curated with the same level of service you’d expect from the Sandals brand.

Relaxation & Dining: A Week in Paradise

Since we had previously explored Barbados—snorkelling with turtles, visiting shipwrecks, strolling through Bridgetown and Saint Lawrence Gap, and touring Harrison’s Caves—this time, we decided to fully relax and soak up the luxury of the resort.

Our favourite spot quickly became The Hideaway Pool, a tranquil escape with its own bar and restaurant. A new highlight was the Heart & Sol Salad and Sandwich Bar, offering fresh, light lunches. Another lunch favourite was Neptune’s, right on the beachfront—there’s nothing better than sipping a chilled Sauvignon Blanc while enjoying a Caesar salad topped with fresh prawns.

Evenings were equally indulgent—sunsets on the beach, followed by cocktails before dinner (my go-to being a Cosmopolitan). Some of our favourite dinner spots included:
              🥩 Butch’s Steakhouse – A must for steak lovers.
🇫🇷 La Parisienne – French fine dining at its best.
🇮🇹 Portofino’s – Authentic Italian flavors in a charming setting.
🇮🇳 Bombay – A favourite for those craving rich Indian cuisine.

Why Sandals Royal Barbados is One of Our Best-Selling Resorts

Believe it or not, this is one of our top-selling resorts across all of Guru Travel’s offerings. As luxury long-haul specialists, we see a high return rate for clients who fall in love with Sandals Royal Barbados and come back time and time again.

Room Categories: Luxury, Club & Butler – What’s the Difference?

Sandals offers three room categories across its resorts, each designed to suit different preferences and travel styles:

              🏨 Luxury Rooms
These are the entry-level rooms, but at Sandals, “entry-level” still means elegant, spacious, and beautifully appointed. You’ll enjoy king-sized beds, spa-style bathrooms, stocked mini-bars, and access to all the resort’s premium inclusions — from gourmet dining to watersports.

              🏨 Club Level Rooms
Club Level takes your stay up a notch with extra perks and elevated service. You’ll have access to a dedicated Club Sandals Concierge, private check-in, room service during set hours, and access to exclusive lounges. It’s perfect for guests who like a little extra pampering and personalised attention.

              🏨 Butler Suites
The pinnacle of luxury. Butler Suites come with your own personal butler. They’ll handle everything — from unpacking your suitcase and reserving your sunbeds to arranging private dinners and drawing bubble baths. Butler guests also enjoy top-tier room locations, 24-hour room service, and the most extravagant suite designs.

👉 At Sandals Royal Barbados, the entire resort is all-suite — meaning even the starting point is Club Level. So no matter which suite you choose, you’re guaranteed a premium experience.

A Life-Changing Journey Through South Africa: From City Lights to Safari Nights

A Life-Changing Journey Through South Africa: From City Lights to Safari Nights

South Africa had been on our bucket list for years, and what better way to celebrate my 40th birthday than with the ultimate adventure? From the vibrant streets of Cape Town to the untamed beauty of Shamwari Private Game Reserve, every moment of this journey was filled with luxury, adventure, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Flying in Style: The Journey Begins

Our adventure started in British Airways Club World on the A380 from London Heathrow to Johannesburg. The BA Lounge experience set the tone for what was to come, with an excellent selection of food, drinks, and a relaxing atmosphere before the flight. Once onboard, the lie-flat seats ensured we arrived feeling well-rested for our connecting Safair flight to Cape Town.

Cape Town: A City of Beauty and Contrast

After a 30-minute drive from the airport, we arrived at our stunning accommodation, One&Only Cape Town. Our Premier Mountain View Room offered unmatched views of Table Mountain, and after settling in, we spent the day exploring the lively V&A Waterfront.

Dinner at Nobu was an experience in itself—world-class sushi and seafood, and surprisingly great value for money.

Table Mountain & Cape Town’s Culinary Scene

The next morning, we started the day with a delicious breakfast at One&Only before heading to Table Mountain, taking the cable car to the summit. Booking fast track tickets saved us time, and once at the top, we were rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views.

We enjoyed a relaxing lunch with a glass of South African wine, then spent the afternoon unwinding by the pool at One&Only before heading out for another incredible dinner at Belthazar Steakhouse. The steak was one of the best we’ve ever had, and the South African red wine selection was out of this world.

The Garden Route: Hermanus & Whale Watching

The next morning, we embarked on our first Garden Route drive—90 minutes from Cape Town to Hermanus. The drive was stunning, but nothing compared to the moment we arrived at The Marine and saw whales breaching right from our suite’s balcony!

That afternoon, we drove to Gansbaai for a boat trip, where we saw South Africa’s Marine Big Five—whales, dolphins, sharks, seals, and penguins. Watching these animals up close was surreal.

After returning to Hermanus, we wandered through the charming seaside village before enjoying a beautiful dinner at The Marine’s restaurant.

Wine Country: Luxury at Mont Rochelle

The next morning, we set off on another scenic 90-minute drive, this time to Franschhoek, the heart of South Africa’s wine country.

Our stay at Mont Rochelle, a small boutique hotel owned by Richard Branson, was incredibly special. The service was flawless, and our Cap Classique Suite came with a private pool overlooking the vineyards.

Franschhoek offers a wine tram experience, horse riding, and visits to other local vineyards, but unfortunately, we only had one night here and wished we had longer. Instead, we indulged in an afternoon of wine tasting and a gourmet lunch at Mont Rochelle, sampling some of the best wines South Africa has to offer.

Plettenberg Bay: Treetop Tranquility at Tsala

After a morning exploring Franschhoek, we flew from Cape Town to George Airport (a quick 40-minute flight), then drove 75 minutes to Tsala Treetop Lodge in Plettenberg Bay.

Tsala is a hidden African gem—rich in culture and history, and surrounded by lush forests. Our floor-to-ceiling windows made for an incredible wake-up call, as we watched monkeys playing in the trees right from our room!

We spent the morning at Plettenberg Bay beach, where we saw great white shark warning signs, a thrilling reminder of how wild South Africa truly is! After an afternoon relaxing at Hunter’s Country House and enjoying lunch, we had a magnificent dinner at Zinzi Restaurant, a fusion of African and international flavours.

Shamwari Private Game Reserve: The Ultimate Safari

An early start led us on a four-hour drive to Shamwari Private Game Reserve, the biggest privately owned game reserve in the Eastern Cape (larger than San Francisco!).

Now, there’s a safari experience, and then there’s a luxury safari experience—Shamwari is on another level. The attention to detail is unparalleled:

No conveyor-belt schedules—game drives are completely flexible. Want a 5am wake-up for a 4-hour drive? Done. Prefer a 7am start and a shorter drive? No problem.

High-end safari vehicles, with Swarovski binoculars for every guest.

Your favourite hot drink waiting for you before heading out.

Hot towels and fresh drinks upon returning from a game drive.

Fresh, gourmet meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner—always a different menu.

Log burner in the room, a bath overlooking the plains (filled with petals on arrival), and an outdoor shower.

Option for a walking safari in the plains with expert rangers.

Our first game drive was unforgettable—we saw lions, giraffes, elephants, rhinos, and hippos. One of the best moments? Stopping for a sundowner at sunset, where the team had set up a full buffet and gin bar in the middle of the reserve.

“Unlike Kruger National Park and other northern regions of South Africa, Shamwari Private Game Reserve and the Eastern Cape are not classified as high-risk malaria areas, so malaria tablets are generally not required. However, we always recommend consulting with a medical professional for the most up-to-date advice before you travel.”

An Unforgettable Connection to the Wild

The following morning, we were woken up by a lion’s roar at 5:30am—he was calling his pride. Hearing this from our room was mesmerizing.

Later, we visited Shamwari’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, where we had breakfast with Dr. Johan Joubert & Ecologist John O’Brien, the stars of Netflix’s “Shamwari Untamed”.

Our final morning started with a short game drive, before visiting the Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary—an emotional yet inspiring experience.

              A Bittersweet Goodbye

Leaving Shamwari was hard, but we headed to Port Elizabeth Airport for our flight back to Johannesburg. The Johannesburg Airport Lounge was a great final touch before boarding our BA Club World flight home.

Final Thoughts: South Africa Stole Our Hearts

              This wasn’t just a holiday—it was a life-changing journey.

After experiencing Shamwari, we promised ourselves we would recommend this trip to as many people as possible. We now have a strong relationship with the resort directly, and after sending many clients here, we are 100% confident that absolutely anyone would love it.

Some of our clients have already rebooked what they thought was a once-in-a-lifetime trip. Others have called us in tears, overwhelmed by how deeply it touched them.

If you’re looking for an adventure that combines luxury, wildlife, culture, and natural beauty, South Africa is the destination for you.
